Haiku Friday: Weather Report

The weather forecast:
Maybe snow or maybe ice
They get paid for this?

One says a shovel
Another an ice scraper
Weathermen don’t know

I’m really not sure what to expect this weekend. Our area is already under a winter storm watch for Saturday, but no one can say for certain what’s coming. However, it’s enough to send the city into a panic to buy up all the bread and milk at the grocery. You’d think we were living in Atlanta, not Columbus. It’s a little ice and snow, people! We’re Ohioans – we can handle this!

Also, in keeping with today’s haiku theme, I wanted to let you all know about a haiku contest at LeastLikely2Breed.net. Details can be found at their site, but the basics are if you e-mail them a haiku about one of their products, you can win a cool prize. And for each entry they receive, they’ll donate $.50 to Doctors Without Borders. Deadline is Dec. 22.

To play along for Haiku Friday, follow these steps:

1. Write your own haiku on your blog. You can do one or many, all following a theme or just random. What’s a haiku, you ask? Click here.

2. Sign the Mister Linky below or at Jennifer’s blog with your name and the link to your haiku post (the specific post URL, not your generic blog URL). We will delete your link if it doesn’t go to a haiku. If you need help with this, contact Jennifer or myself.

3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button above.

  1. We had the same thing a few days ago. Everyone FREAKED OUT about the ice storm and guess what happened? It rained all night. Yep. Rain.

  2. brrrr! y’all are making me cold!

my haiku this week is a celebratory one. 🙂

  3. I live in Montreal. Extreme weather is just the norm here. Still it doesn’t make the winters easier for us.

Weathermen are useless. I think the only reason we keep weathermen around is to keep the illusion going that we can somehow tame or predict mother nature.

I think I’ve made some improvements on my haiku since last week.

  4. Sarcastic Mom (aka Lotus) says

    Yay @ Snow
    Boo @ Ice

I’m all over that haiku contest, yo.

I’m fretting about gifting in my post… kinda. 😉

  5. Love the snow but hate the ice!

The weathermen go nuts when we get that kind of weather here in Texas. It’ll be the top news story.

  6. they are saying the same for up here in Ottawa…it’s snowing right now, and the big flakes looks so pretty…from inside…it’s frackin’ cold here!

thanks for the contest info…heading over there to check it out!

  7. You should see Texans with snow or ice. It’s partially a “WOW SNOW!!” and partially a “I’m a Texan I can drive on this.” The end result? LOTS of multi-car pileups.

I’m with Lotus. Snow is fun. Ice is not.

  8. The friggin’ weather folks, covering all the bases!

  9. Our weather men are saying 6″ of snow. Blech! I hope you guys dont get hit too hard!

  10. Ugh. Sorry to hear your “forecast.” I’m REALLY looking forward to our trip back east next week. HA!

  11. Regardless, it sounds like a tough one coming your way. But the ku are lovely as always!

  12. I want some snow… I haven’t listened to the weather today…. what does it mater anyhow… they are always wrong!!

  13. WOW!! This is my second week of doing a Haiku… and the first I went through and read others…. you all are so good!! I feel the need to “step mine up a notch” now, ha ha…..

  14. LOL, that’s a great haiku. Sounds like our weather forcast is the same. 🙂

  15. Judith Shakespeare says

The Only Thing I Know is…

Poor weathermen… I wonder if people really do throw stuff at them on the streets.

And I wonder if they realize that they sometimes really do deserve it. 🙂

  16. Seems to me anyone could be a meteorologist. It all seems like guess work to me.
    Funny haiku!

  17. Okay, I know snow sucks when you have to drive, and ice is WAY worse, but, do you mind if I remind you all that you at least have 4 seasons? We have barely the chance of a blink-and-you-miss-it five minutes of snowfall every 5 years or so… I miss snow!

I hope your weekend goes well and there is not ice, or that if there is, you can all stay inside cozy and warm with hot chocolate and holiday music playing, and your kitties to purr on your laps. :o)

My haiku today embody the craziness that I am currently feeling, due to lack of planning and all that jazz. But it’s fun, despite how late I am with the shopping. I love the Internet. My ‘ku would be very grumpy if I had to actually go out to stores or something. Ewww!

  18. I bought bread and milk today. Of course, that’s because I was in fact out of bread and milk. Mmmm, PB&J and a glass of milk! ^_^

  19. My favorite — and most accurate — weather forecast was by George Carlin:

“Tonight: Dark. With scattered light toward morning.”

  20. Julie @ Letter9 says

I actually love snowy days in Columbus because they are hilarious. Everyone skids around like they ave no idea how to drive. The streets are like parking lots. I laugh hearty belly laughs as I pass SUVs in my little civic. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, you central Ohio non-snow-driving lunatics!

  21. Jennifer aka Binky Bitch says

Weathermen have the only job in the world where you’re allowed to have about a 30% accuracy and not get fired.
