Haiku Friday: Memories

Haiku Friday
I’ve been feeling a
bit melancholy lately
thinking of the past

I think I will start
sharing more stories from my
younger, pre-kid days

While chatting over lunch the other day, Aaron had to correct me on my own age. I had completely forgotten an entire year off that number – ha! Little young to start forgetting my age, isn’t it? Since then, I’ve been thinking back on how I’ve spent my almost 33 years.

I’ve shared some stories of my youth before, but I want to dig back into my mind and pull out more of the memories that have been pushed aside in favor of Wiggles songs and the names of the Backyardigans. One resurfaced recently when I read a story of another missing child, and I’m going to make an effort to write down the others when they pop into my head, even the painful ones.

To play along for Haiku Friday, follow these steps:

1. Write your own haiku on your blog. You can do one or many, all following a theme or just random. What’s a haiku, you ask? Click here.

2. Sign the Mister Linky below with your name and the link to your haiku post (the specific post URL, not your main blog URL). DON’T sign unless you have a haiku this week. If you need help with this, please let me know.

3. Pick up a Haiku Friday button to display on the post or in your sidebar by clicking the button at the top.

REMEMBER: Do not post your link unless you have a haiku this week! I will delete any links without haiku!

  1. I totally know how you feel. I’m halfway to seventy and I can barely remember what it was like before we had children. That was only just five years ago too.

  2. Prekid days, huh? I think I vaguely remember those. 😉

  3. ya ya's mom says

I miss my pre kid days too….it was nice being footloose and fancy free. sorry my haiku is such a rant this week. i’m pretty fired up though.

  4. I just need to tell you that every week, I look more and more forward to writing my own haiku and checking out everyone else’s. Thanks for hosting this meme, I’m really enjoying it. 🙂

  5. I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately to, and wondering if I have any interesting stories to tell from the before time.

  6. I never know how old I am… I say unless I am 16, 18, 21 or 65 none of the other stuff in between counts!

I look forward to hearing more of your childhood.

Have a great weekend. And do you have nights & weekends free on the phone-just in case we wanted to chat? altho I do have 100 min of free long distance on my phone that I never use!

  7. motherhood definitely makes you push other identities aside.

  8. I’m probably too old to remember pre-kid days – can barely remember spring. 🙂

  9. Like Tink, I look forward to sharing and reading Haiku on Fridays and appreciate you hosting this meme. I’ve published Haiku at Small Reflections and Happily Retired Gal already and will return when I finish the post at Sacred Ruminations to add that link too. Happy Friday everyone!
    Hugs and blessings,

  10. I’ve been thinking of writing some of my ‘pre-kid’ memories too… I feel another Meme coming on! 😉

  11. I understand now why adults go into those “good ol’ days” stories now – whenever I try to avoid talking about my kids, I end up talking about my past.

It is admittedly really hard to talk about something “current” without referencing either my past or how it affects my kids. Yikes.

Still – I love the old stories from others, and will look forward to hearing more from you (hoping that they aren’t as scary as the attempted kidnapping one – my heart is still pounding about that one!)

  12. Lately I’m trying to find my own identity despite the title of “mom”. Good luck strolling down Memory Lane.

  13. That’s been on my mind a bit, too, lately. I’m blaming it on this dreary February!

  14. I guess I can’t miss those days yet lol. One day.

  15. I would love to hear more stories about this.

My memories are so hazy from the pre-kid days! Probably due to so much alcohol consumption…
